Big Data project on transport, one of the most innovative initiatives to improve mobility in Madrid

The Community of Madrid presented the projects being developed for the modernization and digitalization of the public transport system

Last week, at the Intelligent Public Transport Exhibition, the government of the Community of Madrid presented the initiatives that are being developed to promote the digital transformation of the public transport system. One of the projects highlighted by the regional government was the one designed by the IDOM-Fujitsu consortium: Big Data in Madrid public transport for the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM).

The big data and business intelligence project uses advanced analytics to manage and plan CRTM’s operational resources more efficiently in real time. This solution takes advantage of the data generated by the more than 4 million daily trips made on Madrid’s public transport system, by the 42 public and private operators and by the more than 7,000 vehicles that transit the region every day in order to establish profiles and meet demand in a more agile and sustainable way.

Lourdes Márquez, the IDOM project manager representing the Fujitsu-IDOM joint venture, had the opportunity to explain to the benefits of applying intelligent technologies and big data in transport. In the words of Lourdes, “this intelligent transport system allows the CRTM to make decisions in real time, adjust the supply to the existing demand and be more efficient, which translates into more efficient transport, with fewer emissions, with greater sustainability”.

The event was attended by the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, and the Regional Minister of Transport and Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, David Pérez García.
